Business Practicum

business practicumEvery undergraduate student studying business at Florida Tech gets real experience. We accomplish this through the business practicum, a signature component of all undergraduate business degree programs.

The Nathan M. Bisk College of Business at Florida Tech offers educational programs that benefit both students and employers in the local area. One way in which the college strives to achieve that objective is by conducting a Business Practicum.

The Business Practicum Course is a valuable experience that:

  •  Embodies realistic and practical business experiences.
  •  Provides insights into industries in which students have an interest for future employment.
  •  Fosters, enables, and identifies networking opportunities for future employment.
  •  Allows the student to engage in social responsibility and leadership activities within the community.
  •  Teaches students valuable and noteworthy skills needed to enter the workforce.

Because of the business practicum, students will understand how an organization functions and how what they learned in the classroom is demonstrated in the real world.  In a singular way, the Practicum provides necessary skills and proficiency needed for success in today’s very competitive and global business environment.

The business practicum can be an extremely valuable experience for students since it provides the opportunity to incorporate realistic and practical business experiences, not normally achievable in a classroom setting, into academic programs; enabling students to gain insight into industries and disciplines of interest. This practical experience peaks interest in some students for future employment; and provides contacts and networking opportunities to assist in securing future employment.

Employers benefit as a result of having available the services of dependable, conscientious and knowledgeable students who are able to think critically and bring a helping hand and a fresh perspective to the organization. An additional benefit to employers is the opportunity to assess the student's fit as a future full-time employee.

The business practicum also accrues significant benefit to the college as a result of feedback from both students and host employers which enables the university to make effective and appropriate changes in program curriculum and course content.

Student Business Incubator Practicum

Business students can explore business startup as their practicum experience in Florida Tech’s Student Business Incubator, a living, breathing center for new venture creation. The incubator combines curriculum, facilities, and expertise to fully immerse students in a semester long Lean LaunchPad program. This business-launching “bootcamp” pushes students to speak to customers, vendors and strategic partners as they gather resources, develop business models and launch their businesses. Students are paired up with highly skilled executive entrepreneurs who help them develop prototypes, raise venture capital and become successful entrepreneurs.
